Herbal Tincture #shorts

#herbs #organicgardening #herbgarden Herbal tincture is taken internally and can be added to water, juice, tea, or taken on its own. It’s important that you research or consult with an herbalist if you’re not 100% sure of the identification of foraged plants. It’s best to use organically-grown herbs. Herb tinctures are potent and should be taken in the correct dosage. You can use dried herbs as well. Make sure to cover fresh herbs completely in the jar with the alcohol of your choice. The alcohol will extract and preserve the beneficial constituents of the herb. In this video I’m using lemon balm (Melissa Officinalis). Lemon balm is said to possess antiviral properties, has soothing and calming effects, and may help with indigestion. ➡️ Wash fresh herbs in cool running water and dry thoroughly then chop coarsely. Fill a clean jar ½ to ⅔ full. If using dried herbs, flowers, or roots, fill jar ¼ of the way as it will expand when submerged in alcohol. ➡️ Pour your choice of alcohol over the herbs near the top. I used 80% proof vodka. Seal jar with BPA-free plastic lid. If using metal canning lids, place a parchment paper over the jar first to prevent rusting. I used a stainless steel lid. ➡️ Place the prepared jar in a cupboard away from the light. Shake jar every other day for 4-6 weeks. Your extract is ready to be strained after 6-8 weeks. You can use cheesecloth or a strainer with a fine sieve. ➡️ Press or squeeze out excess extract from the leaves. Amber bottles are excellent for storing herbal tinctures. Tincture will last 2-3 years on average if stored properly in a cool, dark, and dry place. Make sure to label and date. ✅ Please always consult with your physician and do your own research before taking any herbal supplements. I hope you find this helpful! 💚🌿 #herbgardening #herbs #tincture #organicgardening #growfood #vegetablegardening #herbgarden Thank you for watching and for your support! 💚 📗My book “Four-Season Food Gardening" is available on Amazon and most online retailers!
