❄️Snow conserves and provides moisture as it melts. This precipitation is beneficial to gardens as it is free from chlorine and other chemicals that are normally present in tap water. 🥶Unfortunately, thawing and refreezing can cause soil heaving exposing plant roots. Mulching after the first hard freeze can help stabilize soil temperatures. Extended below freezing temperatures can damage or kill off semi cold-hardy crops depending on variety and cold-tolerance. On the other hand, certain crops build resiliency when exposed to adverse weather and may adapt to certain climatic conditions. 🌨️Heavy snowfall can also break off branches from trees and shrubs. You can carefully dust off or gently shake snow from branches and stems to prevent breakage. Make sure to have your season extenders in place before the snow arrives. (Low or high tunnel, cold frame, unheated greenhouse) As you can see I procrastinated this year.😬 Stay warm and safe everyone!❄️⛄️ Happy Gardening!💚 #shorts #pnwgardening #organicgardening #snowday #growingyourownfood #vegetablegarden #growfood #fallgarden #wintergarden
